About
Four Days. Three Icons. One Wild Tanzania.
Short on time doesn’t have to mean short on experience.
This 4-Day Tanzania Classic Safari brings together three of northern Tanzania’s most celebrated wildlife destinations in one compact private journey. From elephants wandering beneath ancient baobabs in Tarangire to the open plains of the Serengeti and the wildlife-rich floor of Ngorongoro Crater, every day introduces a different face of Tanzania.
It is an excellent choice for travellers who want a genuine northern circuit safari but have limited days available, whether you’re visiting Tanzania specifically for wildlife or adding a safari before Zanzibar, Kilimanjaro or another part of your African journey.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arusha → Tarangire National Park
Your safari begins in Arusha, where your Balo African Safaris guide meets you in the morning for the drive toward Tarangire National Park.
The landscape gradually changes as you leave the city behind and enter the open country of northern Tanzania. Soon, enormous baobab trees begin appearing on the horizon, announcing your arrival in one of Tanzania’s most distinctive national parks.
Tarangire is especially famous for its elephants. Herds can often be seen moving between the woodland and Tarangire River, while giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, impalas, warthogs and numerous other species roam the surrounding landscape. Lions and other predators are also present, ensuring that every bend in the road carries possibility.
You’ll spend the day exploring the park with a picnic lunch along the way before continuing to your accommodation for dinner and a relaxed evening.
Destination: Tarangire National Park
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Lodge / Tented Camp
Day 2: Tarangire → Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, your journey continues toward one of the most famous wildlife landscapes on Earth: Serengeti National Park.
The drive itself is part of the experience. You’ll travel through northern Tanzania’s changing landscapes, passing communities and highland scenery before eventually reaching the vast Serengeti ecosystem.
As the plains begin stretching toward the horizon, the safari changes character completely.
Serengeti means far more than the Great Migration. The park supports an extraordinary concentration of resident wildlife throughout the year, including lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, cheetahs, leopards and an astonishing variety of birdlife.
Your game drive continues as you make your way toward your accommodation, turning the transfer into an afternoon of wildlife discovery.
As sunset settles over the plains, you’ll arrive at your lodge or tented camp for dinner and your night in the Serengeti.
Destination: Serengeti National Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Lodge / Tented Camp
Day 3: Serengeti → Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Wake to another morning in the Serengeti.
After breakfast, you head back onto the plains for a morning game drive. Early hours can be particularly rewarding as wildlife becomes active and predators may still be moving after the night.
Rather than racing toward the next destination, the morning gives you another opportunity to explore the Serengeti with your guide, following wildlife sightings and whatever the plains reveal that day.
Later, you begin travelling toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
The endless Serengeti gradually gives way to the highlands surrounding Ngorongoro. By late afternoon, you reach your accommodation around the conservation area, where the cooler highland air and dramatic landscape create a completely different atmosphere from the plains you’ve just left behind.
Rest well. Tomorrow brings one of Africa’s most remarkable natural wildlife arenas.
Destination: Serengeti → Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Lodge / Tented Camp
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater → Arusha
After an early breakfast, you descend into the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater for your final game drive.
The crater floor forms a vast natural sanctuary surrounded by steep walls rising hundreds of metres above the landscape. Within this relatively compact area lives an extraordinary diversity of wildlife.
You may encounter large herds of zebra and wildebeest, buffaloes, hippos, elephants, hyenas and several species of antelope. Lions are frequently encountered, while the endangered black rhino is among the crater’s most sought-after sightings.
Wetlands, grasslands, woodland and soda lakes create different habitats across the crater floor, making even a relatively short drive remarkably varied.
After your game drive and picnic lunch, you climb back to the crater rim and begin the journey toward Arusha.
By evening, your four-day safari comes to an end, but you’ll return carrying considerably more than four days’ worth of memories.
