7-Day Tanzania Budget Camping Safari

About

An Affordable Way to Experience Tanzania’s Icons

Travel through some of northern Tanzania’s most celebrated wildlife areas on this seven-day camping safari. From Tarangire’s elephant country and the wildlife-rich Ngorongoro Crater to the vast Serengeti plains and Lake Manyara, this journey combines classic safari experiences with simple camping accommodation for travellers who want more adventure and better value.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Leave Arusha in the morning and drive to Tarangire National Park for your first game drive. The park is known for its large elephant populations, baobab trees and wildlife concentrated around the Tarangire River.

Spend the day exploring the park and looking for elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, antelope and predators before continuing to your campsite for dinner and overnight.

Overnight: Tarangire Campsite
Meals: Full Board

After a short morning game drive in Tarangire, continue toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend into the crater for a full game drive across one of Tanzania’s richest wildlife areas.

The crater floor is home to lions, elephants, buffalo, wildebeest, zebras, hippos and, with luck, black rhino. Enjoy a picnic lunch during the day before ascending the crater rim in the afternoon.

Overnight: Simba Campsite, Ngorongoro
Meals: Full Board

After breakfast, begin the journey toward Serengeti National Park, travelling through the Ngorongoro highlands and the Olduvai Gorge region.

As the landscape opens into the Serengeti plains, enjoy game viewing along the way. Arrive in the Seronera area later in the day and continue with an afternoon game drive before heading to camp.

Overnight: Seronera Campsite
Meals: Full Board

Spend a full day exploring the Serengeti, with game drives across the open plains and surrounding wildlife areas.

Look out for lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, wildebeest, zebras and many other species. The Serengeti’s wide landscapes make this one of the most rewarding days of the safari.

Return to camp in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Overnight: Seronera Campsite
Meals: Full Board

Enjoy another full day in the Serengeti, giving you more time to explore different areas and follow wildlife activity at a relaxed pace.

Depending on the season and animal movements, your guide will choose the best game-viewing routes for the day. This extra day allows for a deeper Serengeti experience rather than rushing through the park.

Overnight: Ikoma Bush Campsite
Meals: Full Board

Begin the morning with an optional guided walk near the edge of the park, led by a national park ranger where available.

Afterwards, leave the Serengeti and travel toward the Great Rift Valley and Lake Manyara area. Enjoy the changing scenery as you move from open plains into greener highland landscapes.

Arrive at your campsite in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Overnight: Jambo Campsite near Lake Manyara
Meals: Full Board

After breakfast, enter Lake Manyara National Park for your final game drive.

Explore the park’s groundwater forest, open areas and lakeshore habitats while searching for elephants, giraffes, buffalo, hippos, monkeys and abundant birdlife.

After the game drive, return for lunch before driving back to Arusha, bringing your seven-day safari to an end.
